By His Side: President Abraham Lincoln and John Hay, presented at The Fells through October 14, 2013.  At age 22, John Hay was a graduate at Brown University, clerking in his uncle’s law office in Springfield, Illinois. Across the hall was attorney and politician Abraham Lincoln, who later hired him as his private secretary in the White House. This exhibit explores Hay’s relationship with the U.S. President during that critical period in our nation’s history.
